The Tour sprang from the creation of the Jamaica Dogsled Team. In 2005 Melville hatched the idea of a Jamaica Dogsled Team when he saw a unique sled that was designed for dry land sled dog racing and thought it would be a great idea for Jamaica; an idea that would also tap into the whimsy of the Bobsled Team. Melville put together a group of dogs – many strays from the Jamaica Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) - convinced Devon Anderson, the company’s director of operations to be a musher and brought singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett and the popular Margaritaville chain on board as a sponsor. Buffett loved the idea so much that he became the team’s “godfather” and namesake to one of the lead dogs.

“A common reaction to the idea of a dogsled team and tour in Jamaica is ‘you can’t do that, there’s no snow’ but with the absence of reliable snowfall in North American sled dog racing Mecca’s, mushers have turned to new styles and dry land racing is on the rise,” says Melville.
The entire Jamaica Dogsled saga has been captured in “Sun Dogs,” a film produced and directed by Toronto based Andrea Stuart, distributed by Palm Pictures worldwide and executive produced by Chris Blackwell and Danny Melville, among others.

ATV SAFARI
Start your tour at Chukka Cove Farm with a short safety briefing and riding lesson then ride through a sugar factory, river bed, lush forests and tropical foliage stopping at the Village of Chester. Then journey deeper into the scenic country side, through paths that meander along shadowed corridors, beneath the jungle canopy, across river beds and hillocks while you enjoy the spectacular view of the coastline and the Caribbean Sea and learn more about the history of the area. Your tour ends with a dip in the deep blue water of Chukka’s private cove - carved by nature out of rock to form a perfect pool.

CANOPY TOUR
After instruction from extensively trained guides, you take a short nature walk to your first platform nestled on the hillside overlooking the treetops and jungle “canopy.” You begin your tour by soaring through the trees using an intricate system of harnesses, pulleys and carabineers on horizontal traverses, while gazing at the surrounding jungle until you arrive at the next Cliffside platform, 45 feet above the ground. Nine traverses, from 105 feet to 660 feet apart, have you swinging through the Laughlands River gorge. At different points in the tour, you will even get a glimpse of the miles-away Caribbean Sea and learn interesting facts about the surrounding tree and plant life. After leaving the valley, you really fly, embarking on a series of long throws – with the last traverse being 600 feet long.

DOGSLED TOUR
Get a one on one tour and hear the amazing story of the dogs of the Jamaica Dog Sled team, many of whom have been rescued from the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and are now considered “Second Chance Stars”. Learn the history and art of mushing around the world, assist with the harnessing of the team as they eagerly await their favorite ride. Once onboard the sled, off you go into the Jamaican country side of Chukka Cove farm. While traveling the roads, you visit the locations where Steve McQueen shot the movies “Papillion,” “Return to Treasure Island” and “Passion in Paradise.”

HORSE & SWIM
Saddle up at Chukka Cove Polo Club for the 3 hour horseback ride through historic St. Ann. The tour takes you through Richmond and Llandovery, two of the oldest sugar estates on the island, and along the beachfront to Chukka Cove’s private beach. Once there you unsaddle your mounts and prepare for an amazing bareback ride in the Caribbean Sea.

STINGRAY CITY
25 minutes east of Ocho Rios lays Stingray City. On arrival at the beautiful private peninsula (also known as James Bond Beach, because of movies filmed there) you are given a brief orientation and safety briefing to demonstrate the correct way to handle a Stingray. Then it’s time to wade into the Caribbean Sea to feed and pet these marine creatures.

TUBBING
In 1494 when the Spanish discovered Jamaica, they named the village Ocho Rios, after the wondrous "eight rivers" they saw here. With this Tubing Safari you explore one of these rivers, the amazing untouched White River. As you get ready to journey down the cool water of the white river you receive a safety briefing and are also outfitted with all the safety equipment for the journey ahead. This three mile ride not only gives you the rich history of Jamaica, it shows you the beauty of the land as you pass through Coconut plantations, bamboo groves, and along river banks filled with indigenous flora and fauna . The real adventure lies in the white river as you enjoy the challenging rapids, and enchanting lagoons. As you disembark the White River, you find yourself in one of the most beautiful Valley's in Jamaica.

Experience the real Caribbean in the Zebra Striped Safari 4x4’s. The Tour takes you up to the highest viewpoint, "Murphy Hill" (2000 feet above sea level) where you look down upon Ocho Rios, the cruise ship pier, the Blue Mountains, and on a clear day, even Cuba. Afterwards you pass through small villages, where you learn the history of the old Churches, see local marketplaces and the statue of Christopher Columbus. During this tour you visit one of Jamaica's largest estates seeing a working Cattle Station and a small Coffee Plantation. The highlight of the tour is the Dunn's River Falls, where you can climb the 600 feet cascades.
